Founding Artisan
For our first release, we partnered with winemaker Don Burns and his family-owned Turtle Rock Vineyards in Paso Robles, California. Influential wine critic Jeb Dunnuck referred to Don as “unquestionably one of California’s new superstar winemakers.”
With an eighteen-month wait time to join Turtle Rock’s wine club, Rare Liquid is fortunate to have a small allocation from the sold-out 2019 vintage, arguably the best vintage in the history of Paso Robles.

How It Works
1. Curation
Rare Liquid’s team of producers, collectors, somms, and insufferable wine nerds put our heads together to create a dream list of artisan winemakers and distillers from around the world. We invite them to collaborate with Rare Liquid on limited collections and offer them to our community.
2. Behind The Scenes
Producers ship bottles directly to our facilities for verification, tagging, and storage. During the labeling process, we apply dime-sized nfc chips under our watermark on the back label which track the provenance, ownership, and storage status of each bottle using blockchain tech.
3. Release
Upon purchase, you’ll receive digital deeds of ownership for your bottles—what we call digital twins. While the physical bottles are stored with us, you can frictionlessly trade their digital twins and redeem them when ready to enjoy.
4. And Beyond
Each release is supported by a series of virtual and irl events to give owners the opportunity to learn about the collection directly from the artisans, taste their delicious creations, and meet the community. Our underwraps second release is already in bottle and all we can say is that it received a 96 point score from influential wine critic Jeb Dunnuck. We’re also experimenting with new ideas like NFC tamper tags and generative labeling
Our Ethos
We believe we are on the cusp of a paradigm shift in how we collect and enjoy rare wines and spirits. Advances in blockchain and near field communication (nfc) chip technology allow us to bridge the digital and physical worlds. Soon, collectors will have personal Cloud Cellars™ to showcase, gift, and frictionlessly trade digital twins that function as deeds of ownership for physicals in insured cold storage facilities until owners are ready to redeem and enjoy on demand.
Rare Liquid’s model aims to solve 3 obvious and historic problems inherent with the luxury collectibles markets
1) Provenance
Provenance refers to a bottles history and origin. Most people are shocked to learn about a massive fraud problem in the world of rare wine and spirits. Forbes estimates that 20% of investment grade wines and spirts are counterfeit. Rare Liquid provides a new standard in verified provenance.
2) Sharing
It is estimate that $8 billion in value is currently locked in personal and wine cellars. Rare Liquid’s Cloud Cellars will facilitate the easy sharing, gifting, trading, and redeemption of asset back NFT collections. Ownership can transfer without movement of physicals removing all the historic risk and friction of trading and will allow producers to earn royalties from secondary markets for the first time in history
3) Secondary Market Friction
Rare wines and spirits are fragile! Storing, trading, and gifting them involves risk and high level of effort. Shipping is dangerous and storage temperatures must be consistent to maximize longevity, flavor, and value. Despite this inherent friction the secondary market for rare wine and spirits is growing 4X faster than the primary market signaling the emergence of a new and younger collector class that are interested in luxury collectible experiences and alternative asset classes.
We envision a multi-generational community of younger wine-curious crypto natives coming together with older crypto-curious wine investors to celebrate and support craft artisans. Rare Liquid offers two years of storage at no charge. Members can redeem bottles at any point within the free storage period or extend the storage period for a nominal fee before the storage period ends.
